Shaping the Future of Our City Centre - VOTE YES

The Plymouth City Centre Business Improvement District (BID), run by the Plymouth City Centre Company, comes to the end of its current five-year term on March 31 2020.

Business Plan 2020-2025

Businesses in the city centre need to vote YES at a ballot in February for the BID to continue its work for a fourth term and continue with its programme of work and investment to make the city centre better for everyone.

In the last 15 years the BID, which is run by the Plymouth City Centre Company, has delivered significant improvements to the city centre and the trading environment and been responsible for direct investment in the city centre of more than £10m.

The BID started Flavour Fest, now the biggest food and drink festival in the South West, attracting 100,000 visitors over three days and having an economic impact of £2.5m.

The BID is also responsible for the city centre’s Christmas events programme, including Christmas lights switch-on, Christmas Market, Penguin Trail  and Christmas marketing to attract more customers.

It was the BID which set up the West End Carnival, which we expect to grow into a major city event over the next few years, and this year’s Plymouth Summer of Fun – a full and varied programme of events at different locations across the city centre – aimed at bringing more people in to the city and spend time and money in our stores, cafes and restaurants.

Events driving footfall

Revitalising the West End was identified in our last business plan as a priority for the area around Plymouth Market and the BID has launched a new West End Plymouth brand, website and social media channels and has partnered with Plymouth City Council to deliver a package of public space improvements which will carry on into the next BID programme, subject to a successful ballot.

Another important part of the BID’s work is to create a safe and welcoming city centre and we know from our businesses that they highly value the work of our Plymouth Against Retail Crime officers.

So, to keep all of this and all the other services and projects we provide, VOTE YES when your ballot papers arrive by post from January 28 2020.
