NEW PLANS REVEALED AND TIMETABLE SET OUT FOR ARMADA WAY

The new plans for Armada Way have been revealed by Plymouth City Council following the widespread consultation exercise at the end of last year.

Ten key changes are proposed to the final design for Armada Way, following one of the biggest listening exercises the council has ever undertaken.

But the good news for city centre businesses is that the council has signalled its intent to press ahead with the huge programme of investment which will give us a city centre that will attract visitors, residents and customers back into the city centre.

Steve Hughes, City Centre Company chief executive, said: “With a scheme of this size and ambition, it is impossible to please everyone. But the council has listened and made changes.

“Now we hope all our businesses and the people of Plymouth get behind this huge investment which will give us a city centre we can be proud of. There will be those who continue to complain and seek more changes. Our message is clear. We need to get on with this now.”

One of the key changes, requested by the City Centre Company, was for a greater commitment to the long-term maintenance and care for all of Armada Way once the scheme is completed and we are pleased to see that this has been addressed. Improving the city centre’s public spaces, and keeping them clean and well-maintained, is vital in attracting new businesses and investment.
