Paint Jam brightens up the hoardings around The Civic
More than 30 artists from Plymouth’s Artists Together took part in a Paint Jam to brighten up the hoardings around The Civic in Plymouth City Centre.
Organised by the city council and supported by the Plymouth City Centre Company and arts supplies shop The Art Side in Mayflower Street, the event attracted plenty of interest from passers-by.
The Civic is being bought back by the council from Urban Splash with plans for a new City College skills hub on the first two floors and basement, with the upper floors due for conversion into apartments.
The city council came up with the idea of the Paint Jam as part of its efforts to tidy up the site and bring some colour to the newly revamped Civic Square.
Steve Hughes, chief executive of the City Centre Company, said: “We were delighted to support this event and would like to thank Plymouth’s Artists Together for giving up their own time to bring their creative flair to the streets of Plymouth City Centre.”
The City Centre Company has supported the work of artists in other locations, including the new murals in the North Cross subways, the Mrs Murals carnival mural in the West End Plymouth and the Resurgam mural on the side of the former Salvation Army hall in Armada Way, depicting the blitz and plans for the city’s regeneration.
