New Health Development Planned for West End

A community diagnostics centre is to be built in the West End of the city centre on the site of the planned health hub in Colin Campbell Court.

The ambitious health hub plans were scrapped when the funding failed to materialise but businesses will be relieved to know that an alternative use has now been found for the site which has been earmarked for major regeneration and where buildings have already been demolished.

The new facility will provide outpatient diagnostic tests including MRI, CT, x-ray, lung cancer screening, ultrasound, audiology, ECG, point of care testing, and blood tests. More services could be added to this list in the future.

It is understood the centre will be open seven days a week and into the evenings, providing more city centre jobs and thousands of extra visitors and more trade for West End businesses.

While not as big as the planned health hub, the scheme will be a significant investment with work expected to start later this year and a mobile scanner on site within months.

We will bring you more details as they emerge.
