Huge YES vote for City Centre Business Improvement District

Businesses in Plymouth City Centre have voted overwhelmingly for the Plymouth City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) to carry on its work for another five years.

More than 90% of the votes cast were in favour of the proposal for the BID to start a new five-year term on April 1, next year.

For the BID to be approved two tests had to be met:

  • More than 50 per cent of those who voted had to vote yes

  • Yes votes needed to represent more than 50 per cent of the total rateable value of all votes cast

Voting figures were:

  • Yes by number: 91 per cent

  • Yes by rateable value: 89 per cent

Yes votes 224

No votes   22

Chief executive, Steve Hughes, said: “This is a huge endorsement of the work we have done over the last five years to look after the interests of our businesses in extremely challenging times.

“The city centre is doing well and getting better all the time. We will be working hard with our businesses to make sure that continues with the new BID term which starts on April 1, 2025 and we look forward to delivering the pledges in our new business plan”
